Ratton ward Eastbourne
Eastbourne

We are delighted to announce the Labour Party candidates for the Ratton ward are:

  • Patrick Duffy
  • David Godfrey
  • Jill Shacklock

David Godfrey

I have lived in Willingdon village for eight years. I love it’s unique beauty on the edge of the South Downs National Park which must be preserved and defended. If elected I will fight to improve the vitality of Ratton and defend it from noise, litter and air pollution. As a swimmer at Holywell from April to January, I am appalled by the contamination of our seas by the water companies. Eastbourne is heavily reliant on being a family resort and if this dumping continues holiday makers will chose to go abroad. There is a large mandate for Water to be returned to public ownership, which I support.

I have experience of both the private and public sectors having worked in advertising, retail and for many government departments including the Central Office of Information, the Royal Botanic Gardens and at Heathrow for Border Force for twenty years before retiring in 2020. I am a keen gardener and love our native plants, butterflies birds and bees and will strive to find ways to increase their numbers and diversity.

On your ballot paper, look for GODFREY, David Christopher, Labour

Jill Shacklock

Jill has lived in Eastbourne for over 25 years. She has worked for the University of Brighton for 38 years and in her ‘spare time’ is involved with a number of local voluntary organisations. She is a trustee of a local charity supporting adults with learning difficulties  and a director of a Community Interest Company dedicated to helping Eastbourne become carbon neutral.

Most recently, Jill has been working in a voluntary capacity to help local business and residents move to renewable energy and improve the energy efficiency of buildings and homes. She co-organised Eastbourne’s recent Sustainable Business and Solar Summit and is currently working on a Solar for Homes event for local residents.

Jill believes in high quality public services for all. She has worked in education for 40 years and is a staunch defender of the NHS.

Jill also campaigns for safer roads, better public transport and more options for active travel. She is proud to support the 20’s Plenty campaign and will continue to push for better bus services in the Ratton area and beyond.

Ratton is a beautiful area to live in, nestled beneath the South Downs. As a councillor I will continue to fight to protect our assets and our environment, for a better quality of life now and for generations to come. Jill Shacklock
