Shape our campaigns
Our Vice Chair (Campaigns) is Jill Shacklock. Now that we are coming out of Covid lock downs, we will be starting up local Labour activism again. We will keep you posted on how to get involved.
Community Engagement
In February 2019 we had a training session with Charlotte Gerada and Natasha who were Labour Party Community Organisers, South East Region. It was a great event. How do we become relevant? Begin getting involved in out communities? Raise awareness of the Labour Party message? We start by hearing people’s ideas about their locality and their town. So, we launched our Listening Drive for 1000 conversations to find out the local and town wide issues that were important to Eastbourne residents. Via the listening campaign we would find out what needed to be done to bring about changes to improve our communities. From here we would be able to get together our Campaign Team and start launching campaigns. We carried out this listening campaign during street stalls in various areas of the town. We learnt e.g. that the level crossing was a huge problem for residents at Hampden Park, that Upperton resident were concerned about street drug dealing in the area; that the buses were infrequent and unreliable in Old Town and Hampden Park and Langney. These are just some of the issues that residents raised with us.
We will need to pick up on some of these issues going forward. Hopefully and post AGM and post Covid restrictions, we will be able to breath new life into our community engagement.
