Gill firmly believes that, of all the aspects of a local councillor’s work, the surgery is one of the most important. “It’s there people can bring their particular problems and get help in finding their way through the maze”.
Gill has trained in psychological counselling and has practiced in a community setting. Before making her home in Eastbourne Gill worked for twenty four years in three East London comprehensives, teaching English and English as an Additional Language.

Meeting Residents Upperton Ward
Gill was out today (Sunday 14th April) with her team meeting residents in Upperton. We heard about what issues are important to local people:- the rise of street homelessness in Eastbourne; the need for an affordable hostel for street homeless people; the lack of affordable housing; support for the Eastbourne Community Land Trust and the council using their land for developing more housing options; the need to promote community green energy; never sell off the down land farms; exploitation of immigrants by unscrupulous employers and a worry that modern day slavery might be occurring locally; more integration of affordable and owner occupied housing; some local affordable housing ‘looking like a prison’ because perhaps it is ‘just thrown up for profit’ and problems of lease holding new housing rather than full freeholds being offered.
We spoke to Labour Party members who wanted a ‘vote labour poster’ for their window.
Further canvassing dates to come.
