Meet Farol Pernet

Farol Pernet has lived in Eastbourne for two and a half years. She has been a registered nurse for 30 years. She has a strong desire to engage in the community she lives in. She has believed in socialism since she was a teenager and is an active member of Eastbourne Labour party.

Farol is fully aware that the cuts in funding for schools, hospitals and adult social care are causing hardship for many people locally and if elected she intends to use her position to improve the lives of women and children in the community,  fighting for the rights of the vulnerable and to make a difference in Eastbourne and beyond.  She has a particular interest to highlight the fact that women are at the sharp end of the cuts, and changes to our benefit system, and rising housing prices. Women are predominantly the carers for children, the disabled and of elderly relatives, often lower paid and often do a large share of work in their households too.

Farol is passionate about fighting injustice and giving a voice to the weak and vulnerable. She strongly believes that together we can make a difference for the many not the few. She is excited to be standing as an Eastbourne Labour Candidate for Sovereign ward.

“Born and bred in Eastbourne, Ian Culshaw has lived and worked in the town for all of his life. After a career in the building trade, Ian worked for many years on Eastbourne Bandstand and other seafront services.

Now retired, Ian remains actively involved in charity fundraising: he was part of a team shortlisted for an Eastbourne Community Award last year, for his work running Race Nights for various local charities throughout the year. A Labour Party member since the 1980’s he served as local Treasurer for nearly 30 years.

As a regular bus user, Ian is keen to ensure that we retain decent bus links to all parts of our town- especially in the evenings and weekends. He believes that the free bus pass is a lifeline for many of our older people- this was introduced by the last Labour government and Labour must fight any proposals to take this away.”
