“Working families have been left overwhelmed by rocketing prices as a result of the Chancellor’s failure to tackle the corporate elite and super-rich in his March Spring Statement.

That the cost of living crisis is worsening for workers was further confirmed by Office for National Statistics figures showing the greatest fall in the value of real wages since June 2014. Unite general secretary Sharon Graham responded that “employers are actively forcing workers to pay the price of the pandemic.”

Sharon Graham has announced the establishment of a new ‘workers’ commission’ on profiteering – a “looting commission” to target those companies who took advantage of Covid-19 and soaring energy costs to make obscene profits from the public and the government and attack workers jobs, pay and conditions. Unite has invited the government to join the commission.”
