In a recent speech, Prime Minister Andy Burnham set out that he wants to immediately focus on lifting up the social care workforce, integrating it with the NHS workforce, creating routes for progression, better pay, training and job security. Baroness Casey will be leading a national social care consultation called the Big Conversation on Care to ensure people’s views are heard. The Prime Minister hosted President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Portsmouth on Monday, welcoming the Ukrainian leader to the UK as his first international visitor since taking office. He used the visit to underline the UK’s unwavering support for Ukraine, both through the war and beyond. |
Investment in youth employment & opportunities |

Through new financial support, more college places and greater access to apprenticeships, the Youth Employment package will help more young people develop the skills local employers need and access the opportunities needed to build successful careers. The measures form part of the Prime Minister’s wider mission to strengthen the link between education and work, ensuring no young person is left behind. Building on this week’s wider reforms giving 14-year-olds greater access to technical learning and meaningful work experience, these changes will help more young people develop practical skills and real-world experience for their future careers. A new bursary, worth up to £4,500 per year per household, will remove a barrier that can otherwise discourage young people from taking up an apprenticeship, helping them build the skills and independence that lead to long-term, well-paid work |
£8.4 billion investment for UK nuclear deterrents |

The government has announced plans to invest around £8.4 billion to drive forward construction of the Dreadnought Class submarines, boosting the UK’s national security for generations and driving economic growth in every postcode. Investment in the programme supports tens of thousands of jobs and thousands of companies across the UK supply chain, including 22,000 apprenticeships by 2035. Prime Minister Andy Burnham said, “Keeping this country safe is the first responsibility of any government – but security is not only about what we build, it is about who builds it, and who benefits from it.” |

Devolution to improve lives in every postcode |
