On 1 April, Prime Minister Keir Starmer said: “Today, millions of people up and down the country will see energy bills go down by £117, wages go up for the lowest paid, and more support will be available for people who need it most – because of the decisions this government has taken. “But we must go further to bear down on costs, and that means pushing for de-escalation in the Middle East and a re-opening of the Strait of Hormuz. That is the best way we can bring down the cost of living for families and that is my focus.” |

Households across Britain will benefit from cheaper energy bills this spring, thanks to actions taken by the government – putting money in working people’s pockets in a major step forward in tackling the cost of living. Energy bills will be cut by an average £117 a year for millions across the UK – locked in until end of June. |
Prescription charges frozen |

NHS prescription charges will remain frozen this year, which will help millions of hard-working people with the cost of living and ensure patients have access to the care they need. The cost of a single prescription will be frozen at £9.90 – saving patients around £12 million this year. |
£1bn fund for vulnerable households – a safety net for families |

The £1 billion Crisis and Resilience Fund will ensure families can access the support they need when they need it. This will act as a genuine safety net to prevent families from falling into poverty. It gives Local Authorities the certainty they need to run long-lasting initiatives targeted at the needs of their local area. |
