Thousands more people given power to transform their communities |

Local people in 40 new areas across England will be able to decide where up to £20 million is invested in their neighbourhood – whether that’s breathing new life into high streets, saving much-loved community spaces, or bringing people together through local events and activities. The new package will build on the success of the £5 billion Pride in Place programme that is helping hundreds of neighbourhoods bring real change to their communities. The Prime Minister launched the scheme in Hastings, one of the first places to receive Pride in Place funding. |
Three in four cancer patients to survive long term under new plan |

Patients will receive faster diagnosis, quicker treatment and the support to live well with cancer under the government’s landmark new National Cancer Plan. For the first time, the NHS will commit to ensuring 3 in 4 people diagnosed with cancer from 2035 onwards are cancer-free or living well after 5 years. This represents the fastest rate of improvement in cancer outcomes this century and will translate to 320,000 more lives saved over the lifetime of the plan. |
1500 more schools invited to join free breakfast club scheme |

With the government’s free breakfast clubs already proving to be a lifeline for so many, it is now calling on more primary schools to sign up, as new polling reveals nearly half (45%) of parents prioritise schools offering them. Applications opened this week for 1,500 schools to join in September, so that 680,000 children will benefit. |
Clean energy upgrades for hospitals and military sites |

Hospitals and military bases will benefit from more efficient lighting, solar panels and heat pumps, thanks to £74 million funding for clean energy upgrades to cut bills for public buildings and create savings for frontline services. These measures will save over 190 NHS sites almost £30 million a year on their energy bills, while military sites across England and Scotland are expected to make annual energy savings worth hundreds of thousands of pounds. |
