Lifting over half a million children out of poverty |
Around 550,000 children will be lifted out of poverty by 2030 – the biggest reduction in a single parliament since records began – as the Government launches its Child Poverty Strategy. Following the reversal of the two-child limit, the strategy tackles the root causes of poverty by cutting the cost of essentials, boosting family incomes, and improving local services so every child has the best start in life |
£3 billion boost for buses |
Millions of passengers across the UK are set to benefit from faster, cheaper and more reliable buses after the government announces a £3 billion boost for services. Multi-year funding will give councils the freedom to spend their allocations in whatever way they see fit, whether it is lowering the prices of fares, introducing new routes and zero emission buses or creating safer bus stops |
Early SEND support |
Families of children with SEND will soon receive faster, earlier support as the government confirms new community-based early intervention is to roll out in every Best Start Family Hub from April. As part of the government’s pledge to roll out Best Start Hubs in every local authority next year, councils are being tasked with recruiting an all-new dedicated SEND practitioner in every hub to provide the direct, family-facing support that has been missing for too long. |
More teachers in training |
Pupils will benefit from more expert teachers next year as new figures show record numbers of people are training to teach in vital subjects including physics and computing. Over 32,000 talented individuals are choosing teaching as a career choice – a rise of 11% on last year – and the government is exceeding its target on recruitment of STEM teachers for the first time since it was introduced in 2019 |
Forces personnel to have travel home for Christmas funded |
Tens of thousands of Armed Forces personnel will be able to claim for a return journey to be reunited with their friends and family this festive season, underlining this government’s commitment to renew the nation’s contract with those who serve. Around 30,000 junior personnel in years 2-5 of their military careers – a group particularly affected by postings far from home early in their service – will benefit from a funded return journey to see their loved ones this Christmas. |
