Labour Government invests £5bn into town centres and community projects
This week the Prime Minister announced £5bn investment for local communities.
The Pride In Place fund will give money directly to local communities to spend in their area.
As part of this project almost 300 places across the country – including Southampton, Portsmouth, Brighton, Oxford, Crawley, Havant, Swale, Dover, Hastings, Slough, Medway, Gravesham and Thanet – will be given between £1.5 and £20m to improve their neighbourhoods, tidy up their town centres and invest in their communities
Record number of major infrastructure projects green-lit
Tens of thousands of people will benefit from cleaner energy, quicker commutes to work and more flights for holidays after the government fast tracked decisions on major infrastructure projects.
The government has green-lit the largest number of major infrastructure projects in the first year of a Parliament in history, with 21 major infrastructure planning decisions made in the government’s first year.
Projects greenlighted include the Lower Thames Crossing, Rampion 2 Offshore Windfarm, and the expansion to Gatwick airport
Over 500,000 children benefit from 30 hours funded childcare
Over half a million children are now benefiting from the government’s rollout of funded childcare, with 1 in 5 of those children living in the South East.
The scheme is helping families save up to £7,500 a year per child and helping parents get back to work
Great British Energy solar panels cut bills for NHS and schools
Communities across the country will benefit from more money for textbooks and healthcare services, as Great British Energy’s solar rollout continues to cut energy bills for schools and hospitals.
From the south coast to the North East, five NHS sites, including South Central Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust, and 11 primary schools will save a combined total of £3.8 million on their energy bills after installing Great British Energy solar panels

Thousands more young people are to receive life-changing support into work or training. Football clubs across the country are signing up to help ensure every 18-to-21-year-old has the chance to earn or learn.
Youth Hubs offer CV and wellbeing advice directly to young people – taking place in settings right at the heart of the community at football clubs, libraries and community centres.
The Youth Hubs will almost double in number thanks to the £25 million investment announced this week.
