● TUC Congress 2022

TUC Congress 2022 was due to begin on 11 September, but as a mark of respect we decided to postpone the event.
Congress 2022 will now be held in Brighton, 18–20 October.

● Strikes

9 September: strike action by CWU members employed by Royal Mail was postponed.
13–15 September: NUJ members at the Daily Mirror, Daily Express and Manchester Evening News have voted to take strike action over pay, but the strike action 13–15 September was postponed. Read more
15 September: ASLEF members employed by 12 train operating companies were due to be on strike, but the action was postponed.
15 and 17 September: 40,000 RMT members employed in the rail industry were due to be on strike, but the action was postponed. TSSA also suspended strike action on the same dates.

PUBLIC OWNERSHIP of the rail industry is a ‘no-brainer’ and its very popular
Unions and the Labour Party support the return of public ownership of the rail industry, as does the substantial majority of the general public. ‘We Own It’ found that 67 per cent of people want the railways in public ownership, 21 per cent opposed, and 12 per cent were undecided (Survation, 2022).
